Hi,
How do one get sharper text/letters in the content area?

When viewing my pages in IE9 (latest version working for Vista), the text/letters in the content-area are not so sharp.

One can see the same in this support-page.
The first text you have on the page, is some unclear, but the text inside the boxes (questions and answers), is sharper.
(here it’s ok to read, but on my page it’s less comfortable to read it (maybe because the letters er smaller (standard wordpress size)).

Wonder if you have a way where I can change the text, to be as sharp as the text you have in the boxes in your support page?

By Admin Mon Jul 7th 2014 at 8:47 pm

Not much I can do about it as as far as I can see this is nothing to do with the theme or even WordPress but most likely the browser you’re using.

I accidentally deleted the front page menu link. (listed in the menus as Home (custom).
i can not figure out a way to make a new one that links to the design I created in the Appearance/ Childishly Simple Options/ Simple ome Page box. Can you help?
Clarissa

By Admin Tue Jul 1st 2014 at 11:43 am

If it’s a link in a menu go to Appearance / Menus and then find the ‘Links’ section on the left. In ‘url’ paste your home page url and in ‘Link text’ type ‘Home’

Hi, I love your theme and I’m using it for my website.

Only one question: I’m using “simple home page 02” as homepage, but I need the classical blog function as well.. I mean: a list of articles/posts I want to put in another section, lets say “news”.
The problem is that if I write an article I cannot see it anywhere. Do I lose the blog function if I use the “simple home page 02”? Thanks a lot!

By Admin Fri May 30th 2014 at 8:05 am

Hi yes, I’m afraid you do lose the blog function. You will probably also find that you can’t create posts in Home Page 02 because there’s a bug that I haven’t figured out yet. WP recently upgraded and a widely reported problem is that the ‘Visual’ editor no longer works. None of the reported solutions has worked in my theme as yet. The only workaround is to create draft posts or Pages and then in ‘Text’ view copy and paste the draft contents into the ‘Text’ view of the various Home Page 02 boxes. If that makes sense, which it probably doesn’t.

By Elena Fri May 30th 2014 at 11:44 am

Thank you very much for your quick answer. It’s not a big problem anyway ๐Ÿ™‚ I can use a page to collect my news. Have a nice day

I love the theme I just up load coupon site it doesn’t fit the width is there away to fix it the site is printablecouponbox.com/ thank you mark

I’m not being funny but you’re not giving me a lot to go on. My first reaction is – make it wider. It’s an option (one of the first options)

Hi, I just started using your Childishly Simple theme and it is simply the best. After struggling with two other themes for over a month I finally was able to get my site looking and feeling the way I wanted it to. Last night I added Buddy Press (BP) to it to get all the social aspects I want on the site. When I go into the members area the BP menu for the wall, profile and groups is awful looking. There is no way to edit it to look good. Are you planning an update in the near future that will let us edit this or is there a plugin or two that will do this? Please tell me I don’t have to find another theme or learn code to fix this. Thanks.

By Admin Sat May 10th 2014 at 3:04 pm

Give me a link to the pages you mean and I’ll take a look

By Joe Sat May 10th 2014 at 4:22 pm

Here are two links. The first is the Wall page and the second is the profile page.

powerfuldragonwisdom.com/community/members/joseph-f-kennedygmail-com/

powerfuldragonwisdom.com/community/members/joseph-f-kennedygmail-com/profile/

These pages are in the pass word protected area of the site. If you want to send me a personal email I can give you that info. As I am the admin for the site it’s the pass word for the whole site. The other option is to just register for free and I can delete it later when your done if you like. I haven’t promoted the site at all since it’s still under construction so you will be the very first visitor. Thanks.

Hi,

My homepage has the same lay-out as the other pages. After upgrading the layout of the homepage is different from the other pages. Most important the sidebar with all the widgets is gone. What can I do to have the same layout of the homepage as the other pages have.

Thanks in advance

By Admin Thu Apr 10th 2014 at 2:49 pm

Which version of the Premium theme do you have?
You can turn home page top and bottom menus on or off, turn home page footer widgets on or off and increase the height of the home page footer spacer
To find out which version go to Appearance / themes
Both the free and Premium versions have the ability to turn sidebars on or off. If I know which version I can tell you where the icons are – if it’s the latest 3.1.8 then top menu on the options page, Sidebars / Home Page sidebars (show)

By Darrell Dodge Sun Apr 6th 2014 at 8:00 pm

I’m using the Premium Theme and Stefan Boonstra’s SlideShow PlugIn was working fine, but suddenly stopped operating. (The circle just keeps revolving.) He says that his PlugIn requires a ” function call in a Theme’s “footer.php” file. I can’t find either in your program listing.

Will this SlideShow work in your theme or should I look for another one? I should stress that it was working fine at one point.

The URL is columbineuuchurch.org/cuuc/recent_activities/

Thanks.

By Admin Mon Apr 7th 2014 at 5:54 pm

The footer does include < ?php wp_footer(); ?>
I installed the plugin. Using shortcode in a post works fine. Using < ?php do_action('slideshow_deploy', '3791'); ?> in the footer AND the shortcode didn’t work – I got the loading icon. When I removed the shortcode and just had < ?php do_action('slideshow_deploy', '3791'); ?> in the footer I got a large blank space.
Using Firebug console I found no javascript errors.
Using Firefox ‘Inspect element’ all I saw was the following which basically says don’t display the slideshow.

<div class=”slideshow_content” style=”display: none;”

I then tried < ?php do_action('slideshow_deploy', '3791'); ?> above and below wp_footer and found that the slideshow works when < ?php do_action('slideshow_deploy', '3791'); ?> is ABOVE (before) wp_footer but not when it’s after it.
If you’ve got the Premium theme note that there are two calls to wp_footer depending on whether or not it’s the home page.

Reasons given on the support forum include using a cache plugin and having other conflicting plugins.

By Admin Mon Apr 7th 2014 at 6:01 pm

P.S. someone else has recently posted (unless it’s you) the same question on the support forum – something to do with a recent update of the plugin?

By dcarson Thu Apr 3rd 2014 at 5:09 pm

my post show up on my home page(where i want them) but it shows the whole post how can I just show a snippet or just a preview.

By Admin Fri Apr 4th 2014 at 9:07 am

The standard WordPress way is to use the ‘More’ button which looks like two horizontal black rectangles one above the other with a space inbetween. This will cut the post at that point with the words ‘Continue reading’, those words being a link to the full single post.
At present the option for excerpts doesn’t exist in this theme.

HI! One little annoying question: My About page is set to the PageNoIndexNoFollow template like all my other pages, which kept comments off of all the other pages, but I can’t get rid of the comment form on the About page. Suggestion?

Otherwise, really nice theme. Thanks for the great work.

By Admin Mon Mar 31st 2014 at 9:32 am

If you look in the top right of the admin page when writing a page you should see a dropdown box labelled ‘screen options’. Click on it and it’ll open out. One of those options is something like discussion or comments – tick that and it’ll show a box some way underneath your post. If you tick that box it’ll turn comments on or off for that Page / post

By Woof Mon Mar 31st 2014 at 12:39 pm

I tried… when I opened the screen options, Comments was unchecked (only page attributes and featured options were ticked). So I ticked “comments”, saved, and went to look on another browser where I am not logged in. Still there. Went back to browser one, unticked “comments”, and reloaded browser #2, still there. I’ll probably just recreate the page from scratch, but wanted you to be aware of this bug.

By Admin Mon Mar 31st 2014 at 1:36 pm

This is a WordPress thing, not related to my theme. Once you’ve ticked ‘comments’ you then get a box below your post. You need to UNtick that box e.g. untick the box below your content on your Admin ‘About’ page. I’m guessing that by default your comments are turned on site-wide (settings > discussion >default article settings). This WP feature allows you to turn off comments on individual posts / Pages

Hi Richard,

I need instruction on the site margins. A Post lets me choose the distance from the top of content area.
A page has a title space but I don’t want to use it. I would like to set the distance from the top of the content area just like a Post.

Also, is there a way to shift the entire site margin ?

The background I’m using is fixed on center but I have to change the site Margin slightly to center site on the background.

Thanks,
Bob

By Admin Tue Mar 25th 2014 at 10:56 am

Sent you an email. There’s a Page template without a space at the top. Next version allows space at top to be adjusted sitewide.

By Bob O Sat Mar 22nd 2014 at 1:00 pm

Hi.

Events-
1. I was set to “choose your own colors” (w/background image) Liquid width
2. I changed the background image
3. Checked the site and the background image which looked like a page with shadow edges
was narrow for the site width.
4. Changed the site to “Fixed” and set the width to fit the background.
5. Checked the site and it had default colors.
6. Went to child theme settings and saw an error for color scheme.
7. Saved my color scheme to Scheme 10 (was saved earlier in Scheme 11)
8. Changed to color scheme 10 (I knew I would loose the background)
9. Got same default colors on site with scheme 10.
10. Tried scheme 11, same default colors
11. Changed site back to liquid 90% and “choose your own colors”
12. Default colors were on site, still had the error for color schemes and “background does not show up on the appearance menu”
13. I can always do the colors again.
14. Help!

Thanks,
Bob

Hi
I have to start by stating that I know virtually nothing about website, but I’m learning. I just added the premium theme and I have lost my menu across the top (under the header on the home page. I did loose my header as well but have managed to get it back. Any help would be appreciated. the website is 3dwoodworkingplans.com
Thanks
Bruce

By Admin Thu Mar 13th 2014 at 7:09 pm

There are two possible reasons. One is that the home page menus haven’t been turned on – this is in a section immediately below the home page section, it’s not very obvious and is revamped in the next version. The icons are vertical white rectangles with black borders and a line going across them to signify the menus
The far more likely reason is that you’ve changed themes, and whenever that happens menus change. Go to Appearance > Menus > Manage locations where you can select your menus and where you want them to go. This is the way WordPress works, it’s nothing to do with my theme.

By Bruce B Thu Mar 13th 2014 at 9:32 pm

Thank you, I did find that the top menu was turned off. I appreciate the prompt support. All is well until my next screw up. ๐Ÿ™‚

By Steve Meissner Tue Mar 11th 2014 at 9:54 pm

I’m being hammered with spam. I’ve got a filter, but I’m still getting 20-30 faux comments a day, usually in broken English.

Any advice on how I can stop them?

By Admin Wed Mar 12th 2014 at 7:42 am

Akismet, AntispamBee,Bad Behaviour. Make sure all comments have to be moderated before go live on site. Turn off comments on individual posts that seem to attract a lot of spam if they’re not getting a lot of real comments (when writing a post look for ‘screen options’ top right which will allow you to show a commennts on/off checkbox below each post).

To be honest anti-spam measures are pretty good. If you’re getting regular email notifications of every spam comment turn that off (not sure where). The email notifications can make a problem seem worse than it is.
Oh, and there are ‘Captcha’ plugins as well.

By felicia Mon Mar 10th 2014 at 3:49 am

I activated the photodropper plugin, but it doesn’t look like its working. I see the hot air balloon on the options but clinking it just sends me to the top of the options page. I’m new to all this. Is it the theme or plugin that is not working? Or wordpress?

By Admin Mon Mar 10th 2014 at 8:33 pm

If you’re talking about Home Page 01 and Home Page 02 it’s the theme. It’s a new one to me.
The way around it is to create a normal post or Page and then copy and paste the contents into Home Page 01 or Home Page 02. You can save your post or Page as a draft so that users don’t see it or you can delete that post or Page.
Not sure what if anything I can do about that.

By felicia Thu Mar 13th 2014 at 6:36 pm

I figured out that I can get a picture on a post, thus saving it in the media library, and then pulling it from the media library to where I really want it (on front/home page). I don’t have to publish the post with the picture. Does that make sense? Its a little extra work but not much. Just in case someone else has the same problem. And yes, I have that Home Page 02 set up.

By Admin Thu Mar 13th 2014 at 7:19 pm

It’s cool. Figuring these things out takes forever and a day. I only figured out in the last year or so that there’s a slightly simpler way, though it’s not so intuitive and that is Media > Add new. You don’t have to create a post at all that way. And yes, even though I work with WP every day it was literally only in the last year that it made sense to me.

I remember reading something you wrote about making the pages look like a magazine layout.

It was something with the Widgets or side bars. Do you recall ?

Let me know how that might be done.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Another Question :
How would I add transparency to the content area & posts & pages, sidebar widgets and Title bars and Navagation ?

Thanks,
Bob

By Admin Sun Mar 9th 2014 at 5:10 pm

It depends what you want it for.
http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/childishly-simple-theme-diagrams/
shows that the site is built up of building blocks. Many of these building blocks sit on top of each other. I’ve only shown some of the simple building blocks in the diagrams.
To get transparency – presumably down to a background image? – you have to have various building blocks one on top of the other all being transparent. Which can take a while to work out and can have untoward effects where you suddenly realise that you didn’t want this or that bit of the site to be transparent after all.

The basic principle is to insert something like the following CSS into the very top options box (Add HTML, CSS …)

<style type="text/css">

div.sidebar {background-color:transparent;}

</style>

By Bob O Sat Mar 8th 2014 at 3:47 pm

Hello,

I looked at your demos and was wondering how you setup different layouts for different
pages. Is there a way for me to do this ?

Thnks,
Bob

By Admin Sat Mar 8th 2014 at 7:08 pm

Not yet. The only other option is to have a Page without a layout – one of the templates is ‘Page without sidebars’

I’ve sent you an email. Looks like a plugin is causing the error and the page hanging is due to a server delivering adverts.

By Helen Vorrath Wed Feb 26th 2014 at 11:54 am

I have just upgraded the site u3app.org.au to the latest version and now have several questions/issues.
1 Even though I have Settings set to “Front Page displays a Static Page”, the site is displaying the Theme Home Page, which looks a bit different from all my other pages. Initially it was missing the sidebar that is in my default page, but I got that back by changing the settings for the Theme Home Page
2 There is a big chunk of white space above the page title, at the top of my default page layout, which I don’t like, but can’t work out how to remove it or reduce it. It wasn’t there in the version I had before. It isn’t there on the Posts page, but is on all the other pages
3 There is a single option for “Post and Page Title” color, which I have set to a blue that matches a color in the banner. Post titles are blue, but Page titles are black, the same color as the text. Does not look as attractive as it used to.
4 There is no longer any space between paragraphs, so all the text now looks cramped and images are now too big for the text. I guess I can fix this by inserting or into the html, but I’d rather not have to! And is the font size smaller? Readability has gone down significantly, and this is a U3A site, so the demographic all need the ‘big print’ version!
5 As I am not using a child theme, I thought I would lose all my custom colours when I upgraded, so I carefully recorded them all by hand, but in fact they were all preserved. I’m still not clear on whether I need to save the colors before I upgrade again, or whether they will be preserved from upgrade to upgrade.
I really loved the way the site looked before I upgraded. Now it’s much harder to read and doesn’t look as nice. Do I need to go back to the old version?

By Admin Wed Feb 26th 2014 at 1:37 pm

I’ve sent you an email containing the following:

Sorry about this. I’ll go through it step by step and then put it all
together at the end.

1) Just had a look, looks like you have a static page as the home page. If
you have a ‘blog’ page then that will be your ‘Childishly Simple options’
home page i.e. choose ‘Multiple posts one above the other’ in the Home Page
section and your ‘blog’ page will then be be multiple posts.

2) Very top options box, put this in changing 10px to the height you want.
I’ll add this in as an option in the next version.

3) Oops, a bug. Hadn’t seen that one before. Will fix it.

h1.page-title {
color:#1f74be;
}

4) This is a bug. http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/bugs-fixes/ Basically I
over-simplified the stylesheet and missed the following bit out.

h1{
margin: .67em 0
}
h2{
margin: .75em 0
}
h3{
margin: .83em 0
}
h4,
p{
margin: 1.12em 0
}
h5{
margin: 1.5em 0
}
h6{
margin: 1.67em 0
}

This should change all the font sizes up a bit. Yes, I reduced the font size
slightly. I looked at other websites and thought that my text was too big.

div.wrapper,
div.wrapper ul,
div.wrapper ol,
div.wrapper li,
div.wrapper li li{
font-size:16px;
font-size:1rem; /*Change all font sizes except the navigation with
this*/
}

5) I’ve tried to explain it better in the next version. Basically as long as
you keep it on ‘Choose your own colors’ you’re fine. Everything is preserved
from upgrade to upgrade. However, for peace of mind copy the colors in red
at the bottom in case anything goes wrong.

Putting it all together, paste the following into the very top options box
(Add CSS, javascript etc. etc. in the head of all pages)

<style type="text/css">

div.header-container {
min-height: 10px; /*change this as you wish*/
}

h1.page-title {
color:#1f74be;
}

h1{
margin: .67em 0
}
h2{
margin: .75em 0
}
h3{
margin: .83em 0
}
h4,
p{
margin: 1.12em 0
}
h5{
margin: 1.5em 0
}
h6{
margin: 1.67em 0
}

div.wrapper,
div.wrapper ul,
div.wrapper ol,
div.wrapper li,
div.wrapper li li{
font-size:16px;
font-size:1rem; /*Change all font sizes except the navigation with
this*/
}

img.header {
width:100%;
}

</style>

Also – please note – in the next version the header image will NOT stretch the full width of the page. This is because some people want to upload logos and they don’t want them filling the width of the site. So I’ve included a little snippet at the end (img.header) that will ensure that your top banner image stays as it is.

Please try pasting the CSS in to the top options box and if there are any problems please get back to me.

Many apologies.

Favicon instructions here:

Try this for the other in the very top options box (Add CSS, javascript, shortcode in the head):

<style type="text/css">

p.comments-and-trackbacks,
p.trackback-only,
p.comments-only,
p.no-comments-no-trackbacks {
display:none;
}

Hi…
Thank you very much for your great Theme and support.

Before the last update I was able to put Tittle and Description Site on Top Image (like here debtsnowballmethod.com). But after Update Tittle and Description Site shows below Top Image (like here loveandmoneytips.com)
Please help me to get the title and descrption overlaps the image.

Thanks in advance,

By Admin Sun Feb 9th 2014 at 3:35 pm

It looks like you’re using a cache plugin and it looks like this might be having the effect of using the stylesheet from version 2.1.7 with the latest version of the theme (which has different html)

The temporary solution is to paste the following into the top options box (untested, you can get back to me if it doesn’t work):

<style type="text/css">

div.site-title-and-description-container {
background-color:transparent;
left:0;
position:absolute;
top:0;
}

</style>

As a heads up this feature will be changing in the next version. Instead of automatically outputting the site title and site description you’ll be able to enter whatever text you want. This will mean that in the next version by default it’ll be blank until you add text. You’ll also be able to link the text and change the color of the primary tagline and the secondary tagline. See upcoming features here:

http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/upcoming-features/
It’s also useful to check the bugs and fixes here:

Hi…
Thanks for your answer.
That code doesnโ€™t work because desappears all: Image and Tittle.
So far I can’t find a way to get the same effect as before the update: the title over the image.
I appreciate your support
Best regards,

By Admin Mon Feb 10th 2014 at 7:00 pm

It looks like you’ve pasted it into the wrong box. It should be the very, very top box – starts out something like ‘ Add cSS, javascript or shortcode in the head’ with a little + sign to the left, click on the little + sign and it opens out – then paste the code into the top box. It should say something about it being the ‘last item in the head of all pages except the home page.’

Don’t forget to remove the old code that was pasted in (I think) into the incorrect box.

I would like to ask you about how to improve two suggestions I receive when I analize my sites with Google PageSpeed. I do not have much experience on this topics, but I really would like to improve the performance of all my sites, which are made with your theme.
How to: Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content and Prioritize visible content? …There is something I can do inside Theme code?

Thanks a lot,

By Admin Fri Feb 14th 2014 at 4:36 pm

You’re not the only one with these questions:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/render-blocking-javascript?replies=13
You can check your own speed here
http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
Most of the javascript (all?) is a WordPress issue, not a theme one.
Google recommends putting CSS inline for small amounts of CSS. https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/OptimizeCSSDelivery
No point doing that for large amounts – the CSS in an external stylesheet is cached meaning saved so that it doesn’t have to be loaded again every time a user visits a new page.
You could try using a cache plugin.
Realistically pagespeed is going to be a much over-rated concern for small webmasters, kind of fiddling whilst Rome burns ie it gives smaller webmasters the idea that they can do something to improve their rankings dramatically when really inbound links and usage data is likely to be far more relevant. http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/simple-seo-to-rank/ But for mobile pagespeed will be a bigger factor.

Hey pal,
I bought the new theme and have refreshed it numerous times. I uploaded it correctly. Not having much luck. Please advise. Thanks

The first post in each page of categories menu(menu of any category) is repeating twice. How can I solve this. Also the image is so large if I am using categories.

By Admin Tue Feb 4th 2014 at 6:38 pm

Do you a website address? You can email it me if you want. Also, have you got the latest version? On a previous version there was a bug where featured images filled the page.

By Dan Russell Sun Feb 2nd 2014 at 10:39 pm

I am using the Childishly Simple Premium theme on WordPress 3.8.1. I have done some customization so have a child theme.

I updated from 2.1.71 to 3.1.2 and notice some problems, so have since reverted, but created a test area where I’ve loaded the new version and see the same problems.

The main site, which is working is nanrussell.com. I’ve added a set of icons sitting on the right of the menu bar – works fine. With the new update I get the following:

1) A PHP error: PHP Warning: array_key_exists() [function.array-key-exists]: The second argument should be either an array or an object in xyz.com\wwwroot\test-wp\wp-content\themes\childishly-simple-premium\footer.php on line 185

2) And, no menus display, although the icons I added do, albeit a bit unaligned. Looking at the generate HTML, the menus are not added.

I removed the function to add the icons (which was placed in the section: Add HTML, javascript or shortcode below your top navigation bar on all of your web pages) and I no longer get the error in footer.php, but still no menus appear.

Thanks in advance for any input. Let me know if there is any other info you need.

By Admin Mon Feb 3rd 2014 at 3:08 pm

Well, you’ve done a lovely job of that. I’m not sure that I see much of my
theme left! ๐Ÿ™‚ I would have hoped that the home page bottom widgets might
have accomplised much of what you’ve achieved with the three columns on the
front page. Oh well. ๐Ÿ™‚

The menus not appearing is probably ‘cos a child theme is counted as a new
theme. Therefore you have to ‘Manage Locations’ (Appearance/Menus) all over
again. You also usually need to reassign the header image and the widgets,
none of which are ‘lost’ but just need resetting for what is technically a
new theme.

‘I removed the function to add the icons (which was placed in the section:
Add HTML, javascript or shortcode below your top navigation bar on all of
your web pages) and I no longer get the error in footer.php, but still no
menus appear.

I don’t understand this. Did you paste PHP in from the options page? Or
insert it into footer.php in the child theme?

Richard

By Dan Russell Tue Feb 4th 2014 at 4:22 am

Ah … there’s a lot of your theme left. I really life the flexibility and it help considerably in creating the look and feel that we wanted. (I didn’t consider the use of the widgets in the footer for the three column layout in the body and will take a look at that.)

With regard to current problems – the menus are set up the same if I look at both my old version them menus and the new ones. I have a Main menu and then sub-menus from that. If I go to Manage Menus they are identical with each showing Top Menu being Main. I didn’t change anything between the old version and the new … just installed the upgrade.

With regard to – โ€˜I removed the function to add the icons (which was placed in the section:
Add HTML, javascript or shortcode below your top navigation bar on all of
your web pages) and I no longer get the error in footer.php, but still no
menus appear.
โ€˜

I donโ€™t understand this. Did you paste PHP in from the options page? Or
insert it into footer.php in the child theme?”

I had a short code – [add_social_media_icons] – in that section. This is linked to the following function in function.php:

function add_social_media_icons() {
$reply = ”;
$reply .= ”;
$reply .= ‘‘;
$reply .= ‘‘;
$reply .= ”;
$reply .= ‘‘;
$reply .= ‘‘;
$reply .= ”;
$reply .= ”;
return $reply;
}
add_shortcode( ‘add_social_media_icons’, ‘add_social_media_icons’);

When I remove the short code I no longer get the php error.

By Admin Tue Feb 4th 2014 at 6:36 pm

Ah, not the widgets in the footer – the home page actually has a widget feature that is above the bottom navigation bar. The feedback I’m getting is that I’ve got to make all this stuff a LOT clearer – it’s too cluttered and a bit overwhelming. Oh well.
And I haven’t really started yet …
This might sound a really, really stupid question – but have you clicked ‘Save Everything’ on the options page. The only way I could replicate the array_key error (or at least AN array_key error) was by FTP ing an upgrade (sorted that particular error in next version) and then visiting the site without saving the options.

By Dan Russell Wed Feb 5th 2014 at 3:56 am

I returned the short code and now don’t see the PHP error either, so I’m going to assume some temporary glitch.

However, I still don’t get the menus. I have a menu named Main set up, with everything seen on the version of the site running on the old version. When I check the Manage Locations, Main is the menu selected for the Top Menu. The menus just aren’t being added to the source – could there be something I’ve overridden that has messed that step up?

If sending screen shots or anything else would help, let me know.

By Admin Wed Feb 5th 2014 at 5:23 pm

Yes, on the home page you can turn menus off (scroll down to the home page section). Also double check that your menu has content i.e. menu items, which I’m sure it has, just trying to think what it could be

By Dan Russell Wed Feb 5th 2014 at 5:42 pm

I’m unable to reply to your most recent reply that mentions the home page section and ability to turn the menus off. Well, that was it. That was not an option in the old version (at least I can’t find it), and the default appears to be OFF. I hadn’t stumbled across it in the new options. Now that I’ve turned it on, the menus are back.

I still have some work to do with minor format changes, but this was the big problem.

Thanks for the help and rapid replies.

Hi Richard,
Just spotted some odd behavior in Google Chrome.

All pages (and posts) are displaying a vertical scroll bar. This applies to the summary of posts as well as the posts and pages themselves.

See blog.addmysupport.com/ and merchant.addmysupport.com

(I can’t say for sure if this is since the last update or a previous one. I don’t usually check in Google Chrome)

Let me know if a screen shot would help and i will email one over.

Thanks
Chris

Thanks for the sterling work finding these bugs that I would have missed. I was unable to replicate this but ‘Inpsect element’ indicated it was overflow:auto in div.entry (which has been there since version 2.1.7 at least). I’ve removed that and updated the Premium yet again – let me know if it fixes the issue. Just hope that it doesn’t throw up new issues.

By Chris Davis Wed Jan 29th 2014 at 8:37 pm

Yes. That update has fixed that issue. Thanks. I will look out for any other changes and make sure i test in a few browsers from now on. Many thanks for the quick updates.

I want to display logos on header with links to different websites for each logo. Ho can I add logos/images in my header after my site name and link it to corresponding websites? The website is culturalcommune.com

By Admin Tue Jan 28th 2014 at 8:55 pm

Wow.
You could always add a slideshow into the header. Meteor slides (plugin) is good, I’ve used it – paste the shortcode into the top image box. If you have trouble with top rounded corners on the slideshow if you go that route I can have a look.

Or you can add an image map, but that only works for fixed-width sites. If you decide to make the site fluid (liquid) width it won’t work.

The only other alternative is to add specific html into the top-image box where each logo is positioned separately, e.g. with inline styling e.g. img src=blah style=”position:absolute;top:0;left:10%” (I haven’t put all the tags in)
But if you want the site title and description to show then you’d best view source and copy it and then paste that in as well.

Anyhow, here’s a link to a description of the image map route if you choose to go that way. I’ve finished for the evening but if you want HTML and CSS for each individual image I can sort that out tomorrow.

Hi Richard,

Latest update seems much better on header tags. Not a big issue here but I thought I would share this whilst active in case it helps ID anything else relating to sizing on the new theme.

I activated the same sharethis plugin as used on the old site on a site using the latest theme but found the share icon images get cut off on the new theme. New = blog.addmysupport.com/

On the old theme they display as intended. about.addmysupport.com/projectnews/

(This relates to the row of social buttons below each post. Tested in FF and Chrome)

By Admin Tue Jan 28th 2014 at 7:46 pm

Hmmm. I’ll look at that. The bug fix for p and headings (h1, h2 etc.) in posts is at http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/bugs-fixes/ I’ll be using that in style.css in the updated bug-fix version coming within the next few days. Ho hum.

By Zombie Sat Jan 25th 2014 at 8:18 pm

Hi,
I’ve been using Childishly Simple for a while now and love it but I’m having a bit of an issue with the font size and spacing, since updating to version 3.0.3. Did something in the update change the font and if so, how can I get it back to “normal?” I’m having to add a lot of random spaces in my blog posts just to get to appear right when it publishes and it’s quite frustrating. Any help you can give me with this would be much appreciated. If you’re not quite sure what I’m talking about, my is zombiemamma.com If you scroll through my homepage you can see that my posts are now full of strange empty spaces. Any help you can give me with this would be greatly appreciated.

By Admin Sat Jan 25th 2014 at 9:52 pm

That looks nice. I couldn’t see any strange empty spaces – do you mean in the text? Yes, the font size changed slightly – apologies. It’s in the notes section at the bottom but the feedback I’m getting is that no one reads them. If you tell me where you want the font sizes changed I can probably tell you how to do it. If you mean spaces between the posts there’s an option to change that, and on the home page you can also change the background color of the content area (it doesn’t have to be blue if you want it green instead, which is the color you’ve chosen for the rest of the site)
UPDATE: Yes, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 and p (headings and paragraphs) should have had margins added to the top. My mistake. I was looking so long at the update (a major update which included simplifying the style sheet, something that hopefully I won’t have to do again) that I was unable to see several blindingly obvious flaws. The next update (3.1.0) should have these mistakes fixed.

By Zombie Sun Jan 26th 2014 at 12:29 am

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I don’t have any problems with the spacing between the posts, my only issue was with the font itself and the spacing issues within the text that came about with the change in font size. All I’m wanting to change is the font size of the text within the posts so that all of my formatting, within my blog posts, will go back to what it was pre-update. I actually did read your notes on fonts so I’m sure the answer I’m looking for is there somewhere but for whatever reason, I just can’t find it. Thanks for your help and the suggestion to change the background color in the content area; I don’t think I ever really noticed that it wasn’t green. (And now you know why it’s no surprise I probably overlooked the answer to this question of mine…)

By Admin Mon Jan 27th 2014 at 2:23 pm

I’m sorry about the formatting issues. I made what I thought were minor changes to the text size but clearly they weren’t that minor. This was because I changed from ems to rems which are a lot easier to change font sizes for.

For main post texts paste the following into the very top options box but adjust the font-size. The size in pixels is for old versions of Internet Explorer which don’t understand rems. Both sizes should be changed. 1 rem is roughly equal to 16px

<style type="text/css">

div.entry, div.entry ul, div.entry ol, div.entry li, div.entry li li,div.inner-home-page-simple-textarea-content,div.inner-home-page-simple-textarea-content ul,div.inner-home-page-simple-textarea-content ol,div.inner-home-page-simple-textarea-content li,div.inner-home-page-simple-textarea-content li li{
font-size:16px;font-size:1.00rem;
}

</style>

By Zombie Mon Jan 27th 2014 at 2:44 pm

Thank you so much for your help! I think things are finally back to “normal” now! (And there was much rejoicing…)

By Darrell Dodge Sat Jan 25th 2014 at 6:57 pm

When I updated to WP 3.8.1 all of my CS Theme pages lost paragraph breaks and paragraph breaks are no longer automatically added in “Visual” mode with the “Enter” key (carriage return). The tags were even lost from HTML I had entered. In addition, the menu that drops down from the site title at the top of the page now appears behind the header image (!)

Can these problems be fixed?

By Admin Sat Jan 25th 2014 at 9:34 pm

What version of Childishly Simple are you running? I’m presuming the free version?

To be honest the bit about ‘paragraph breaks are no longer automatically added in “Visual” mode with the “Enter” key (carriage return)’ sounds like a WordPress issue, ‘cos that’s not really anything to do with the theme.

I’ve just tested version 2.17 and 3.0.3 with WP 3.8.1 and the menus are working ok. It might be the HTML that you’re pasting in. Is that any of the bug fixes from here? http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/bugs-fixes/ There have been position:relative issues with CS 3.03 – in short I tried to simplify the style sheet too much so I’ve had to add position:reltive to a lot of divs.

.top-navigation,
.bottom-navigation {
position:relative;
}
MIGHT be what you’re looking for. The theme with known issues addressed and sorted is going through the theme approval process.

Perhaps you can email me or paste a url here and I can take a look. I won’t be around much tomorrow.

By Darrell Dodge Sun Jan 26th 2014 at 6:21 am

The CS menus are fine. The menu problem concerns the main WP admin drop down menu being hidden behind the Web page content when I’m logged in — specifically the drop down from the WordPress site name. In my case, this is “Columbine Unitarian Universalist Church” (after the homepage icon), which when pressed drops down the menu starting with “Dashboard” behind the Web site image. This would not be so bad, but a similar thing is happening to my slide show plug-in on /About Us/Activity Slides/, where the captions are now appearing behind instead of in front of the slides when you mouse over them. I would say this was a plug-in problem if it weren’t for the other issue cited.

Also, there were spaces between the services in the text box in the right panel before the theme upgrade. I can probably get them back in, but why did this change?

One thing: I noticed that the html tag “br” is not listed or defined in the new theme CSS.

columbineuuchurch.org/cuuc/

I will be upgrading to the enhanced theme version shortly.

Thanks.

By Admin Mon Jan 27th 2014 at 9:47 pm

You’re right about the menubar and the slideshow. Both are z-index issues which I’ll look into. The slideshow problem is related to my giving images a z-index, which in turn was related to another issue so I’ll dig deeper and see if I can resolve that.
The paragraph tags problem can be sorted out by pasting this in the top options box:

<style type="text/css">

p {
margin:1em 0;
}

</style>

The reason all the fonts etc. changed was that I decided to give the premium version the choice of selecting font sizes and font families. To make this work I had to change the stylesheet around a bit, changing some ems to rems and simplifying stuff (making some things less specific so they could be over-ridden by internal styles). Eventually I got ‘stared out’ and could no longer see the obvious from looking at it all too much.

The latest version has been approved and is now live so a lot of the previous workarounds should be irrelevant.

By Darrell Dodge Mon Jan 27th 2014 at 10:55 pm

Thanks! The code you provided fixed the paragraph issue.

Hi Richard,

I am loving the updated theme and its features. The extras in the premium have been well worth it for me, and make it much simpler to use so thanks.

Could you please advise how to achieve the following (ideally without the use of any third party plugins):

1. I want to use the “Simple Homepage 02” as the main homepage of the site. I can then customise this through the options page which works brilliantly.

2. I also want a “Posts page:” displaying the latest posts like the default. (i will be linking to this in the main menu)

I thought there was a simple Shortcode that I could use to recreate the default posts page on any new wordpress page but all i can find is plugins. Can you please let me know the simplest way to achieve this for me and others wanting to achieve the same.

Many thanks
Chris

*sigh* Just updated to the latest version of the theme and it completely wiped out my layout. ๐Ÿ™

By Admin Tue Jan 21st 2014 at 10:34 am

I think you’ll find (hopefully) that it’s only the home page that has ‘changed’. And that’s because there’s now an option to remove sidebars from the home page, and the sidebars are removed by default. Scroll down to the home page section and tick the appropriate box and that might solve the problem.
I’ve just made a test update on a test site that was running the old theme and it updated without losing any settings.
Update: I ran another test, fresh instal of the old theme, changed some colors around, saved. Then installed the latest update, everything worked fine (thank goodness!). All the changed colors were still there. If you touch the color scheme (e.g. you choose color scheme 1, which is the default color scheme) then you will lose all your existing colors.
Also note for anyone else reading this that if you kept the default header image then the header image will have changed to the new default header image. But most people instal their own image, in which case that image should still be there.
Also note that the sidebars might need to be moved down the page (there’s an option for that) as the units for moving them down the page has changed from ems to pixels for more precision.
Most of this stuff is in the ‘Notes’ section at the bottom of the options page.

I see that you’ve gone back to version 2.1.4 of the theme. There were a couple of updates after that, and then this most recent one. Sorry if it’s messing things up. I have tested it extensively and on my test site numerous test updates didn’t reveal any problems. But sometimes things go awry.
All previous versions of the theme can be found from this page https://themes.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16146 – doesn’t take too much digging around. You can unzip and upload via FTP. Or unzip, rename the folder from childishly-simple to childishly-simple-01 or something similar, might have to rename content at top of style.css as well e.g Childishly Simple 01, re-zip, upload from within Appearance / Themes.

Hi, I’ve been using Childishly Simple theme for months as I prefer it to all the others I’ve tried. I still do, but just wondering if there’s a way to make the title text in my post larger.For blogs it’s the only part I’d like to enhance is the titles. Thanks. You’ve been helpful with pointers in the past. If this is a stupid question, please excuse. I haven’t abused your help much. Appreciate it.

Thanks for all the detail Richard.

Just an idea… an improved Header Option on the premium theme could be a feature people would want to pay for. A simple background colour, a place to upload a logo, a simple text display for description and one or two link buttons would be great.(like grouponworks.co.uk )

Regarding the theme, can i just check with you if it is possible to copy the configured basic theme from one site to another. As i am using the child theme the scenario would involve copying both the main and child theme from site1, and installing it on site2 (activating the child theme again)

I know menus, widgets and headers would need to be reactivated but are there any other things I am missing. I will try this out tomorrow but your feedback would be helpful.

Many thanks
Chris

By Admin Tue Jan 14th 2014 at 10:16 pm

Thanks, feedback like that is always useful. I’ll look at what I can do. I want to keep it simple not only for the user but also for me so that there’s no conflict with existing functionality e.g. the existing WordPress option to upload a header image. But I have been thinking about an area where users can upload their own HTML e.g. text in a div on top of the header image.
You can’t copy the configured basic theme from one site to the other unless you mess around with the database. You’ll have to manually recreate all your settings e.g. sidebar widths and colors.

By RC Tue Jan 14th 2014 at 9:20 pm

Hello,

I’ve been working with this theme just a little bit. One aspect I have a question on, is the border around a table. I didn’t see any controls native to your theme to set the table border color. Using firebug, it looks like this

div.comment-body table {
border: 1px solid #C0C0C0;
}

I set a child theme, but it does not seem to be overriding the border color. Either I am setting the wrong thing or it’s inherited from elsewhere. Is there any insight you can offer me?

Thank you for your time.

By Admin Tue Jan 14th 2014 at 10:10 pm

Yes, I was a bit too specific in that stylesheet. It’s simplified in the next version. One reason that the table border colors aren’t set is because of the loads of CSS needed e.g. div.comment-body table, div.comment-body th, div.comment-body tr, div.comment-body td and then the same thing for left sidebar, right sidebar, footer and home page widgets (‘cos calendars are in tables). I figured most people would use a light background for text and not many would want tables and if they did then black seemed a reasonable color. But I might change all that later and add it in as an option.

Anyhow, one way round this is to post something like <style type="text/css">

div.comment-body table {border-color:red;}

</style> in the very top options box. If you want to use a child theme your style SHOULD over-ride the imported style from style.css. I don’t know why it doesn’t. You could always try being more specific e.g. div.content div.comment-body table {border-color:red;}

Update 15th Jan: I made table border colors the same as the font color for left sidebar, right sidebar, footer widgets, home page bottom widgets

By Chris Davis Tue Jan 14th 2014 at 12:25 pm

Hi Richard,

I am wondering about how to best use the premium theme having already started using the free child theme and wanted to check a scenario with you.

I have a site set up and customised using your free child theme. If I upgrade to the premium theme this will give me a new version of the theme to install. Once installed is there anyway to then export the theming work done on the free version so it can be imported it into the premium?

Also, I would like to use the premium theme on a group of sub domain sites (3 initially). These sites are all separate (other than sharing the main domain so this is not a multisite install). To use the premium theme to allow me to switch colour schemes and test different schemes between each of the 3 sites would I need a premium child theme installed on each of the sites? For example: If I create a yellow scheme on site1, blue on site2 and green on site3 – could i later use the premium theme to import the yellow scheme from site1 to site2.

(As a final point can you please clarify if the premium theme is only importing/ exporting colour scheme, or is it including all the options on the the “Childishly Simple Options” page – for example: column layout etc

Many thanks
Chris

By Admin Tue Jan 14th 2014 at 6:33 pm

When you update to the Premium theme it uses all the settings saved from the free version. It should be a seamless transition with all widget, menu and option settings identical.

Yep, you can import color schemes from one site to another.

At the moment the Premium theme only imports and exports color schemes. This is because the theme is changing rather rapidly and it’s difficult to keep track of everything. By ‘importing’ and ‘exporting’ I mean copying and pasting some code related to the color scheme. Importing/exporting other options is certainly a possibility for later versions but perhaps when the theme’s stabilised a bit.

The free theme is maybe one day away from being submitted for the theme approval process which can take between two and six weeks (or longer) depending on queueing time and problems found. The free theme will have the color scheme option. This is because I need to find a feature that people REALLY want to buy in the Premium version. There’s been a steady trickle of purchases but it’s clear saving color schemes is not a high-demand feature. In other words, wait a few weeks if you want and you’ll get the color scheme feature in the free version.
The Premium version (not yet released) will have minor features such as the ability to turn on and off sidebars on the home page, turn on and off footer widgets on the home page, increase the height of the home page bottom footer area and change the height and width of the home page content area. The main feature will be the ability to change font-size and font-family on roughly 35 different areas of the page. After that I shall probably start adding different home pages to the Premium theme.
Update: child themes are considered to be unique themes. When a child theme is activated all the options on the options page are still utilised by your site so no colors are lost, no sidebar widths are lost etc. but theme menus, widgets and headers have to be reset (all the settings for menus, widgets and headers are ‘still there’ but you have to reactivate them which usually only takes a few minutes).

Thanks for helping me out with my last questions. i removed the top menu on the header while working and dont know how to put it back. they are all on the left widget. please help besmartblog.com/

By Admin Mon Jan 6th 2014 at 9:53 pm

Your top menu is there but the color is white so it blends into the background – CTRl + A = ‘Select all’, you’ll see it then.

By yoteun Mon Jan 6th 2014 at 7:58 pm

Hi, Is it also possible to remove the calender from apost screen? (date when something is posted?)

By Admin Mon Jan 6th 2014 at 8:24 pm

Very top options box,

<style type="text/css">

p.post-date {
display:none;
}

</style>

Great! Thanks for your fast reply!
One more thing, when i go to the wigdet section i want to remove one widget block on the right side of my page.
I can’t see that there are any widgets in the admin area. (on the page i see the widgets but not in my admin area. I only see in my admin the widget on the left side….
How can i solve this?

By Admin Mon Jan 6th 2014 at 9:51 pm

Sounds like you need to click on ‘Sidebar items’ at the top of the options page, and make sure that all the checkboxes are unchecked. It’s a mess ‘cos my CSS somehow broke and the checkboxes are scattered all over the place – sorted in next version.

Great! Thanks!
Havea good night.

Hello and thanks for a really beautiful WP Theme…

I just wanted to know if there is any way of getting rid of the โ€˜Homeโ€™, โ€˜All Categoriesโ€™ and โ€˜Pagesโ€™ widgets on at least one of the sidebars?

Thanks for your attention,

David Maas.

By Admin Sat Dec 28th 2013 at 4:23 pm

One of the links on the top (and I can’t remember exactly ‘cos I’m working on the next version of the theme) will say something like ‘Sidebar items’. Click on that and it’ll take you down the page. There are checkboxes for the left and right sidebars. Uncheck (untick) the items that you don’t want.

I would like to thank you very much for your prompt reply…the issue I had is resolved…

Good luck with the new version, I canโ€™t wait for its release…

I have tried to moved the ads on both left and right down but they wouldn’t. they stay on the header instead of under byt the slider,p lease help, i added it to the left and right slider widget. my website is besmartblog.com/ and is there anyway to put google ads inside the body? thanks in advance

By Admin Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 5:19 pm

Can’t see what you mean – didn’t see any slider or ads. Google ads – quick search brought up this: http://wordpress.org/plugins/quick-adsense/

By Ayoola Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 5:26 pm

Thank you for the fast replied. is there any way i can send you screen shot? may be email

By Admin Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 7:02 pm

Sure. Best of all is when I can look at the actual website though, which I have done, I just don’t know what I’m meant to be looking for ‘cos I can’t see any adverts. One thing I did notice is that you have javascript between the head and the body, which won’t help. It should either within the head or within the body.

By ayoola ajayi Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 7:25 pm

Thank you. I thinkink you have ads block on that is why you can’t see it. And is possible the ads is the java you are talking about. I want to put it under header by the right Nd left widget. But it laps over the header and try to move it down but wouldn’t

By Admin Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 7:49 pm

You’re one hundred percent correct, I’m a bit dumb. ๐Ÿ™‚

You have two lines of HTML:

<div id=”WordCents_DIV_1″ style=”position: fixed; top: 10px;”>

<div id=”WordCents_DIV_2″ style=”position: fixed; right: 30px;”>

These lines, when changed, affect the right sidebar ad unit ‘cos I’ve messed around and made it move. I haven’t got the widget installed so I don’t know how you affect those lines. They appear to be javascript rather than plain source (I used FireFox and Inspect Element)

Edit: I got the top and right px wrong probably as I just copied and pasted the HTML I’d been messing around with. But you get the idea – it’s possible to move the right ad unit around in my tests and it’s those two lines that do it.

By ayoola ajayi Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 8:36 pm

I tried all the options but non of it give me good result. Still stay on the header or very helped where no one can see it untill you scroll down to the bottom

By ayoola ajayi Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 8:38 pm

And when I contacted ioage tech, they told me it is the theme. Now I don’t know what to do

By Ayoola Sun Jan 5th 2014 at 11:27 pm

thank you i get it figured out. you are the bomb

I have excerpts enabled in the WP Settings -> Reading options. But still full posts are displayed. If I use another theme, the excerpts display fine. Is there some setting in Childishly Simple Theme, which enables or disables excerpts?

Please let me know soon. I wish to display only excerpts and not full posts on the home page.

Thanks for a nice theme.

Raspal

By Admin Sun Dec 22nd 2013 at 8:59 pm

This theme currently doesn’t allow the option of excerpts, although it’s slated for future and if you know a little bit of code it’s very easy to change (but unless you know about child themes such a change will be overwritten on every update)
One way round it is to use the ‘more’ icon when you write a post, which cuts the post off at that point and finishes with a link to the full post. The ‘more’ icon is a bit like two rectangles one above the other.

By Raspal Seni Sun Dec 22nd 2013 at 9:08 pm

Thanks for your reply.

Excerpts would have been nice to have with such a nice theme. If you can tell me the code to use, I’ll be able to use it. I can’t use this theme only because of no excerpts option. Isn’t there some code I can insert in the header.php or post.php which displays just excerpts then?

I can use child themes and though not a programmer, I’m good at tech. The more option sometimes doesn’t seem to work so I don’t like that approach.

Go to here to download a ready-made bare-bones child theme.
http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/childishly-simple-child-themes/
In your existing theme (download it from WordPress to your computer and unzip it if necessary) find home-page-multiple-posts.php Copy that file to the child theme.
Change

$childishlysimple_post_count++;
if ( $childishlysimple_post_count <= 2000 ) : to $childishlysimple_post_count++; if ( $childishlysimple_post_count <= 0 ) : Untested, but should now give you excerpts on home page. To show more posts on ALL multiple post pages (home page, categories, archives, tags etc) go to Settings / Reading and change 'Blog pages show at most' Either upload the child theme using FTP or zip it and upload it from within the Admin Panel (Appearance/ Themes / Add new)

First, this is simply the finest theme I have found yet. Finally a theme with enough control to do what you want. Superb! Thank you! Unfortunately, I still have a question ๐Ÿ™‚

I am using a 3 column layout on the main blog page, but I would like to remove the sidebars for other pages like a calender page or fotos page etc. I can hide the widgets using the WP.com Jetpack plugin, but the sidebar space is still taken even though they are blank. FYI, Another theme (Church) has a Layout addition to the Page screen that allows sidebar selection at a page specific level (perhaps a new feature enhancement someday). My test site that I am mocking up is cristovienealmundo.org/test/ were you can see where I’m trying to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I definitely want to use this theme for my main site.

PS. I noticed a reference in these comments to a site that uses 3 columns but has pages that are full width without sidebars but I don’t know how they did it (az-desertriders.com – Silent Heroes and Photo Gallery).

By Admin Fri Dec 20th 2013 at 6:50 pm

There’s a Page template ‘Page without sidebars’ – choose it when you write a page – but you’ll also need to put a little CSS in the top options box, see here http://www.alchemweb.co.uk/bugs-fixes/
Will bear your suggestion in mind, it’s been suggested before, on my to do list, thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

By Raymond Weeks Fri Dec 20th 2013 at 10:51 pm

Brilliant! Two clicks and a paste and it’s working. Very impressed. (I hadn’t actually seen the templates there before. Still rather new at this ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Is there a way to Remove the previous and next link under the posts

By Admin Tue Dec 17th 2013 at 8:34 pm

Yep, for single posts, very top options box:

<style type="text/css">

div.single-post-navigation {
display:none;
}

</style>

Hi this url returns a 404 error.

By Admin Sat May 31st 2014 at 6:39 pm

Which url?

By Admin Sat May 31st 2014 at 6:40 pm

Sorry, my mistake, didn’t realise this was a reply from ages ago. There’s no easy way of centering menus etc. at the moment in this theme.

Imageshack sucks.

By Brian Thu Dec 12th 2013 at 5:19 pm

I just installed your theme. I’m not using a header image, but want to make the header smaller in height. How do I do this? How would I add both an image and text to the header?

Thanks

By Admin Thu Dec 12th 2013 at 5:43 pm

Not sure I fully understand. If you remove the image (‘Appearance / Header/ Remove Header image’)then by default the site title and site description set in ‘Settings / General’ are shown within a box. You can change the height of this box like this:
div.site-title-and-description-container-without-header {height:50px;}

If you want both an image and text go to the ‘Advanced Image’ option. It’s a long time since I’ve looked at that version of my theme (I’m working on the next version) but there’s instructions on how to achieve that.
If you want a header image that’s not so high then crop your image to the height you want. Whatever image you insert is scaled proportionate to the width so if it’s quite a small image it’ll be stretched wider to fit into the width of the website. That’ll mean the height will be scaled up as well.

By Brian Thu Dec 12th 2013 at 5:52 pm

Thanks, but where do I make the CSS changes? I’m a programmer, but fairly new to WordPress. Do I need to modify a .css file, a .php file, or do I do this within WordPress?

By Admin Thu Dec 12th 2013 at 6:46 pm

In the top of the very top options box reached by clicking ‘Appearance / Childishly Simple Options’
Place the CSS within the following and paste it into the top box:

<style type="text/css">

</style>

Hi,

Great theme !
One thing I can’t figure out is: “Can I add a background image to my color scheme ?”

Thanks,
Bob O

By Admin Sun Dec 1st 2013 at 4:53 pm

Not saving it as a color scheme, no. But once you’ve saved a color scheme click ‘Choose your own colors’ (from memory – I’ve updated the theme since then but not yet released it), save that, then scroll down to ‘Body background color’. There’s a box there to tick – when that’s ticked save everything again. Now ‘Appearance / Background’ will have magically appeared in the left sidebar where you can choose a background image.
Sorry it’s complicated. The reasoning is that the background color is an integral part of every color scheme so whenever the user chooses a color scheme then ‘Appearance / Background’ gets disabled.

By Bob O Sun Dec 1st 2013 at 8:51 pm

Thanks for the quick response. I’ll do what you suggested.

Thanks,
Bob O
